Save the date – Answer Cancer Champions Appreciation Event 4th February 2026

Truth Be Told

Our fabulous Cancer Champion, David, has been getting involved in the Make 2nds Count “Truth Be Told” campaign — and we couldn’t be prouder!

In his video, David opens up about his experience of secondary breast cancer and shares what it’s been like navigating this journey as a man. He talks honestly about the importance of speaking up and breaking the silence around men’s health.

As David says:

“By talking about things you can make a difference. Eventually it will do some good.”

Such powerful words — and a brilliant reminder that conversation really can change lives.

Wonderfully Made Woman’s Black History Month celebrations

Our programme manager Susan was delighted to be invited to Wonderfully Made Woman’s Black History Month celebrations. WMW are one of the groups funded by Answer Cancer this year, to promote the importance of cancer screening. They are doing a fantastic job recruiting champions to have important conversations in their community.

This Van Can is Back

“This Van Can” is coming back! The cancer awareness roadshow will be back on the road from the end of October, visiting all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and delivering over 70 events over the next few months. This time it will be focusing on generic red flag symptoms rather than one specific type of cancer, encouraging the people of Greater Manchester to “Get Cancer Clever”. Specially trained staff will be available for friendly chats, advice, and information. Visitors can stop by for a quick conversation or pick up free materials to take home.

As well as the van, the “Get Cancer Clever” campaign will be sharing key signs and symptoms of cancer using social and traditional media. It also hopes to debunk some of the myths around cancer that might create barriers to seeking help. Drop in if it is at a venue near you. Find out where the van will be next:

Prevent Breast Cancer video in Urdu

Prevent Breast held a Health Inequalities Community Roundtable on the 30th of September and one of the most mentioned issues was the need for accessible information for ethnically diverse women.

So, it is great to be able to share Prevent Breast Cancer’s new video in URDU by a GP explaining how to check your breasts at home and what signs and symptoms to look out for. Click the link below to watch the video.

Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance has also produced a series of four new films to help encourage Black and South Asian women to attend breast cancer screening or visit their doctor with potential symptoms of breast cancer. You can view the full suit of films on the Alliance You Tube playlist HERE.
