Upcoming Training & Events

Free training sessions from Answer Cancer, the Greater Manchester Cancer Screening Engagement Programme! Different dates and times are available to suit you. We are now offering training through a mixture of online and face-to-face sessions, so please make note when signing up!

You need to register in advance to attend the sessions, but you can join as many sessions as you like. For a list of courses and register, please click here.

Talk Cancer Courses

The 2024 dates for Cancer Research UK Talk Cancer and Train the
Presenter courses are now live on the Greater Manchester Cancer
Academy’s website.

Delivered by nurse trainers, these online, interactive workshops give
you the knowledge to raise cancer awareness in your community so
that you can feel confident talking to people about:

• How to reduce the risk of cancer
• The importance of spotting cancer early
• The national cancer screening programmes.

If you promote health and wellbeing in your community, the Talk Cancer
training will help you make your conversations more impactful.

Who has pledged to Bee Seen, Get Screened?

Bolton University and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council are the latest employers leading the way when it comes to health and wellbeing. In total 110 organisations have now signed the Bee Seen, Get Screened pledge meaning that nearly 80,00 employees across Greater Manchester can:
• Get time off or work flexibly to attend cancer screening appointments.
• Talk about health and wellbeing initiatives in the workplace.
• Have opportunities to talk about cancer and the importance of cancer screening at work.

Check out our new round of grants

Would you like to help Answer Cancer grow communities’ knowledge of cancer and increase the uptake of cancer screening across Greater Manchester? Answer Cancer is offering small grants of up to £2,000 to Greater Manchester based voluntary, community & social enterprise (VCSE) organisations to deliver projects that will raise awareness of cancer & encourage people to attend cancer screening appointments. Project delivery period August – December 2024.

In the first of a new series looking at cancer in the news, host Steve Bland and Professor Matthew Evison, Associate Medical Director at the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, cast their eyes over the stories making the headlines in the first two months of 2024. And it’s been a busy one, with the news of the King’s diagnosis, Olympian Chris Foy reluctantly revealing he had been receiving treatment, the death of TV chef Dave Myers, and ground-breaking research projects including a new national BRCA gene testing programme and a new bowel cancer screening programme for people with Lynch Syndrome.
