Join us online for our celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This relaxed, online event is a chance to learn more about breast cancer, the NHS’s cancer screening programmes and what you can do to help protect yourself and your community. They’ll be the opportunity to find out more about the Answer Cancer Champions movement, our campaigns, and how you can get involved.
The theme of our event is “Comedy vs Reality“. We will be discussing the role of comedy in cancer awareness, challenging stigma, fear and embarrassment, and supporting people living with and affected by cancer.
We will be joined by two Answer Cancer Champions who are themselves both cancer survivors. Firstly, Jean Langford, followed by Dr. Julie Wray. We will also be hosting an open discussion with Answer Cancer staff, Cancer Champions and wider participants.
Here is Jean introducing herself in her own words:
“My name is Jean, I’m 39 years young a wife, mother a grandmother and a legend. Beating grade 3 Breast cancer, 2 years having chemo radiation and copious amounts of medication some of which were fun – Steroid day was amazing but anyway…
I am a qualified and practicing therapist and even though I know how to help others helping myself is a whole other story.”
Dr Julie Wray says:
“I was Yorkshire born and am a mum, daughter, sister, wife, friend to many and as they say a cancer survivor. Cancer came into my body out of the blue and most unwelcome; despite the shock and emotional turmoil humour maintained my sanity! I have had breast cancer and bowel cancer unrelated and ten years apart In both cases I was too young for screening and had symptoms. With a friend who also had breast cancer we created ‘TitsUp’ a gritty and powerful show about cancer experiences.”
Friday 23rd October is Breast Cancer Now’s Wear It Pink day – raising awareness of and money for breast cancer. We’ll all be rocking our best pink outfits and we’d love for you to join us in wearing it pink for breast cancer at this event.
So come along, invite your friends and family to join you and let’s work together to fight breast cancer.
