In the second of our series of Answer Cancer Champion profiles, we would like to introduce Rosa! Rosa is a student at Manchester Metropolitan University, and along with three other MMU students, has been working with Answer Cancer on a number of projects to increase awareness of cancer screening, particularly amongst young people and those from the LGBTQ+ community.

Q. Who is someone you admire, and why?
A. Dolly Parton, she has always been so unapologetically herself, never changing for anyone. I also think she’s a caring person that does a lot of good for causes she cares about and is obviously a brilliant singer/songwriter.

Q. Tell me three pet peeves.
A. Having to wait for people, talking through a film, people not washing up properly.

Q. What’s a typical day like for you?
A. Wake up and have a cup of tea and my breakfast, I like to try get most my work done in the morning and early afternoon then make something nice for tea and spend time with my friends in the evening.

Q. Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about?
A. I’m quite an open book so most people probably know this, but I can sew and am starting to get good at roller-skating!

Q. If you could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, where would you be? (Don’t overthink it!)
A. On a beach!

Q. Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What do you want to be when you grow up?
A. I used to change what I wanted to be almost every day, but I think fashion designer was a favourite then.

Q. If we went to happy hour, what would you order?
A. Espresso martini! Or a pint.

A. In bed…

Q. How do you want people to remember you?
A. A kind and smart person who’s fun to be around.

Q. What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?
A. I work well independently and in a team and I like learning new skills.

Q. Name three words that you describe you.
A. Caring, optimistic, fun

Q. How do you think your colleagues would describe you?
A. Helpful.

Q. What do you want to make sure you do before you die?
A. Travel to more countries.

Q. What’s a goal you have for yourself that you want to accomplish in the next year?
A. To finish university with a first.

Q. Name a few of your daily habits (other than a shower and brushing your teeth).
A. I must have at least one cup of tea every morning, watching some tv show, series or film.

Q. What publications do you regularly read?
A. I mainly just read the news on my phone.

Q. What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?
A. Having a chat with my friends or family.
